Megadeth took the no. 3 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart alongside Adele and Justin Bieber. Dystopia marks the highest chart impact for Megadeth since Countdown To Extinction, which debuted at no. 2. Megadeth announced the North American leg of their Dystopia World Tour, which kicks off in Dallas on February 20, 2016. The North American leg takes them across the U.S, visiting 12 states and throughout Canada.
Dystopia was released January 22 on CD, LP, and digitally. 30 years into a groundbreaking career, hard rock and metal forerunners, Dystopia is Megadeth's 6th studio album in the top 10, and 11th studio album in the top 20. Also, Dystopia is the no. 1 album on the Hard Music and Top Rock charts, and no. 2 on the Top Album Sales chart.
"Getting the number one spot for hard rock and metal while a very talented lady (Adele) gets the number one spot for pop - I am ecstatic with the results of Dystopia. Now, it's time to take it to the streets!"Dave Mustaine said in a statement.
Megadeth's domination was felt overseas as well, with top 10 debuts in Japan (no. 2 international chart), Finland (no. 3), Canada (no. 3), Mexico (no. 4), and Australia (no. 6), as well as Belgium, Ireland, and Australia achieving the band's highest chart positions ever. Other countries with significant sales or chart debuts include UK, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Netherlands, and France.
Megadeth burst onto the scene thirty years ago, virtually inventing a genre with their debut album Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! (recently recognized by VH1 as the Greatest Thrash Metal Debut Album of All Time).
A special edition is also available featuring a groundbreaking Virtual Reality experience, which includes the new album, a CEEK Virtual Reality headset and a download code to unlock exclusive content.
Megadeth has sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including 11 Grammy nominations and scoring five consecutive platinum albums.
