Pacific Rim 2 Release Date News: Charlie Hunnam Talks ‘Monster Creation’

Pacific Rim 2 Release Date News: "Pacific Rim" sequel is pushing through, according to a report by Business Standard.

The original film ''Pacific Rim'' was released in 2013. "Pacific Rim 2" was originally scheduled for an April 2017 release. The sequel was announced in 2014.

The second installment of the cult 2013 monster movie film was previously rumored to have been cancelled.

"Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam is ready to reprise his role as Raleigh Becket.

''I think world creation and monster creation and all of that stuff are exciting as a secondary element of storytelling.'' Hunnam told Cinemablend.

''When it becomes more important than storytelling, I get very nervous, and you sort of lose me a little bit. Although we tried very hard on Pacific Rim to marry those two elements, I do feel like ultimately it got weighed heavier on the side of spectacle than storytelling.''

Director Guillermo del Toro was originally scheduled to have followed last year's "Crimson Peak" with Pacific Rim 2, but it was revealed he was in talks to develop a new version of "Fantastic Voyage" for James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox.

Guillermo reminded readers not to believe everything they read on the internet. He explained that the Pacific Rim sequel is only being delayed so the creative team has enough time to outdo the first Pacific Rim.

"Don't believe everything you read. It's still going and I'll remain w it in one way or another!" he tweeted.

Del Toro said "Pacific Rim 2" will explore facets of the story that weren't explained in the first movie.

"It was hard to create a world that did not come from a comic book," del Toro told Buzzfeed. "That had its own mythology, so we had to sacrifice many aspects to be able to cram everything in the first movie. Namely, for example 'the Drift,' this was an interesting concept. [Then there was] this portal that ripped a hole into the fabric of our universe, what were the tools they were using? And we came up with a really, really interesting idea. I don't want to spoil it, but I think at the end of the second movie, people will find out that the two movies stand on their own.

Universal scheduled Pacific Rim 2 for a summer 2017 release last June, but removed it from the calendar the following September. A statement from Legendary Pictures and Universal at the time said both companies remained committed to the project.
