Netflix is beefing up its original content for 2016. While they do not run the traditional cable TV platform, they have succeeded in capturing audience worldwide not only through their library of TV series and movies but also through their original content.
This year, they are reimagining a popular book that already had a movie adaptation into a series: "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snickets (Daniel Handler).
The online streaming service is not only brining the beloved book to live with multiple episodes, they are also bringing new and familiar faces to help launch the series. According to Entertainment Weekly, "'Supergirl' actress Malina Weissman will play Violet and newcomer Louis Hynes will play Klaus in the streaming company's series adapting the gothic children's novels by Daniel Handler..." The narrator or Lemony Snickets will be played by Patrick Warburton.
The most popular name attached to the upcoming series from Netflix is Neil Patrick Harris. According to Deadline, "After lengthy negotiations, Neil Patrick Harris has closed a deal to topline Netflix's series adaptation of Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events." A few months ago, there were some reports that NPH is already in negotiations for the upcoming adaptation. NPH will play the villain, Count Olaf.
Time also provided additional details of the upcoming series, "the 13-book series-which will be adapted into a 13-episode mini-series for Netflix-traces the miserable lives of three siblings who move from foster home to foster home after their parents are mysteriously killed in a fire." Neil Patrick Harris also returns to small screen acting after years of hosting various awards shows. His last stint in acting in a TV series is on "How I Met Your Mother."
Although the cast of the upcoming series has already confirmed, filming and the online release of the miniseries are still unavailable.
