Naruto Chapter 700 marks the official end of the manga series. However, recent reports suggest that Kishimoto might push for one more before completely delving in the world of Naruto's son Boruto.
While fans of manga series anticipate a spin-off that will focus on the Naruto's son, Kishimoto will offer a one-shot manga which is supposed to be part of the original Naruto manga series. This is practically the final manga Kishimoto creates as he becomes a supervisor of the upcoming series featuring Boruto.
Viz uploaded an image in their blog site announcing several big titles coming very soon. Among them is the Naruto One-Shot by Kishimoto himself set for April 25 release. The proper Boruto manga series will premiere on May 9. The same image also features the announcement of Hunter x Hunter's return this April.
Of course, the upcoming manga will feature Boruto and the one-shot will most likely feature the same set of characters but from the perspective of the Naruto. However, what has been intriguing lately is Mitsuki who has been mum about the identity of her mother.
The question of her mother's identity and even the state of Orochimaru could be answered in the upcoming one-shot. Aside from Boruto,"it will center on Boruto Uzumaki's teammate, Mitsuki, who is also the son of Orochimaru. The story will be part of Naruto (rather than the up-coming Boruto manga) and will be titled 'Naruto Gaiden: The Path that the Waxing Moon Illuminates,'" according to Saiyan Island.
The background of Boruto and Sarada (Sasuke and Sakura's daughter) are relatively known to the fans of the manga. However, Mitsuki remains a mystery and there are so many questions left unanswered by his presence alone.
Of course, the one-shot will not answer everything but it is possible that the upcoming chapter should provide some answers before the first chapter of Boruto is released.
