‘Voltron’ Netflix 2016 Rumors; Series Premiere Confirmed! Sven Replaced By Shiro!

Netflix continues its nostalgia TV series and this time they focused their efforts in one of the iconic animated TV series during the 80s: Voltron. Partnering with DreamWorks, Netflix will give fans of the robot lions a blast in the past with some updates. The media streaming giant will offer all 13 episodes of the initial season of "Voltron: Legendary Defender" on June 10.

The tone of the upcoming animated series will be "an epic 'Game of Thrones' feel with some humor, and upping the danger level," according to USA Today. DreamWorks were also given free reign on how to go over the story telling and even the mythos behind the powerful robot. But fans of the old series should not fret "while the new show will have some modern tweaks, including more serialized storytelling, much will be the same to older fans."

Those who doubt the storytelling prowess of the upcoming series, the show runners have serious pedigree in the world of animation. According to Collider, "the series hails from Executive Producer Joaquim Dos Santos ('The Legend of Korra,' 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'), Co-Executive Producer Lauren Montgomery ('The Legend of Korra'), and writer Tim Hedrick ('The Legend of Korra,' 'Avatar: The Last Airbender')." "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra" are Nickelodeons' animated TV series that feature really deep mythos and strong back story.

Here's a very interesting fact about the upcoming series. According to Entertainment Weekly, the pilots are named, "Hunk (voiced by Tyler Labine), Keith (Steve Yeun, 'The Walking Dead'), Lance (Jeremy Shada), Pidge (Bex Taylor), and Shiro (Josh Keaton)." In the 80s animated TV series, there was no Shiro but a Norwegian space explorer named Sven. Because of injury he has to be replaced by Princess Allura who became the permanent pilot.

But Shiro is not just a random name of the character. On the Wikia Page for Sven, the Japanese version of the animated TV series "Beast King Go Lion" features not one but two characters on Sven: Takashi Shirogane and Ryou Shirogane. Ryou has to replace Takashi because of his brother's death.
