"The Last of Us" is one of the biggest games for PlayStation when it was released in 2013. It is an extremely entertaining open world platform with elements of horror as the game hero Joel tries to make his way into the post-apocalyptic world with Ellie. Aside from commercial success, it is also a critically acclaimed game as it scored 95/100 in Metacritic.
Because of its commercial and critical success, a sequel is naturally expected from its developer and publisher. Games Radar reported that the game is actually on the pipeline of the developer's projects. Neil Druckmann, Creative Director of the game for developer Naughty Dogs, recently spilled the beans by revealing that "The Last of Us 2" is indeed in their pipeline but the game developing company will focus their efforts first in the other extremely popular game: "Unchartered 4." Specifically, the company will focus on the Uncharted series DLC before dedicating their efforts on "The Last of Us 2."
Simply put: the "The Story of Us 2" will have its day but the release date is still up in the air. But there are speculations on when the game will be released based on the output for releasing new content from the publisher. According to Game Rant, "Naughty Dog typically has two to three years between game releases. Going by that pattern, don't expect to see anything on The Last of Us 2 until 2017 at the earliest, with the game itself releasing somewhere probably in late 2018 or early 2019 as a PS4 exclusive." The latest edition of the game is "The Last of Us: Left Behind" released in 2015. Because of the developer's timeline, the game should be released next year.
The upcoming sequel will definitely be a big hit. However, the eventual release of the game's sequel still hinges on the release date of "Unchartered 4" DLC.
