Gorillaz, one of the most popular music group in the late 90s is coming back for more. Although they are known as a virtual band, the men behind the act - Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn are well regarded in their respective artistic capabilities that their outlet for expressing something entirely unique is highly appreciated. Latest news is that the virtual group will be releasing a brand new album very soon.
Jamie Hewlett recently spoke to DIY on October 2015 with regards to the upcoming album, "That's next year. I'm working on it at the moment, and it's going very well. I'm very excited. I don't want to say too much about it, but I'm at that phase of experimentation."
Hewlett is in charge in bringing the band to virtual reality. As the animator, he is in charge of designing the band members who became the face of Gorillaz. But even with the established faces, the artist has been working on some samples on the possible look of the band when the album is released this year. His official Instagram account is full of rough drawings and colorful renditions of the upcoming look of the virtual band members.
Music wise, Damon Albarn is already working on the album. In his interview with Rolling Stone last year, Albarn revealed, "I'm in the very early days on a new Gorillaz record. So far, it's really fast, and it's got quite a lot of energy. I've been stuck on piano, somewhere off Broadway, for years now. I want to go somewhere completely opposite of that."
With artwork and music coming together this year, fans should expected their favorite virtual band should release their latest work anytime soon. What's even impressive is that the virtual band will be sporting updated looks and technology will bring them to life in live concerts.
