Popular comedian Kim Je-Dong said that he'll welcome any investigations about his military service story. However, the Korean military said that his military service record doesn't exist.
The member of "The Running Man" SBS variety show said he would not apologize for his comment about his military service according to Chosun Ilbo . He said that he is the man of his word and he would not take back his story. He also said he is ready to be investigated by prosecutor to prove him right
Previously, the 42-year comedian told a story about him being thrown to military prison for 13 days for calling his superior officer 'ahjumma' (old lady). While the military official denied his story, claiming there was no record of him being in military prison during his military service.
This issue has gone wild as he was accused of defamation and false accusation following his story. One Korean civil organization has even planned to file charges against him over the story.
Kim continued his rant as SE Daily reported. While attending a traditional music concert event, he said that in a democracy, people has the freedom of speech, as he continued to insist that his story is true.
Known as an outspoken and liberal person, Kim is no stranger to controversy. He is an avid supporter of the late president Roh Moo-Hyun, who committed suicide on May 23, 2009. Kim also hosted the memorial service for President Roh, which prompted KBS to fire him from reality show Star Golden Bell - the show he had hosted since 2005.
He also had his show "Kim Je-Dong Show" cancelled from the Mnet cable channel TV after the controversy surrounding his hosting of memorial services for late President Roh. Many Korean citizens and politicians wanted to distance from Roh because they consider him to have weakened South Korea's political strength in East Asia.
Kim is known for an excessive concern over social and environmental issues, and he became vegetarian to reduce carbon emissions from consuming meat. However, his honesty about his political views have made people respect him for being genuine.
