'Why YG?' Psy Says Look at Me Now

As a well-established musician going into the 10th year of his career, Psy surprised everyone in the K-pop circle when he signed with YG Entertainment without a signing bonus in 2010. The decision, seemingly puzzling and ill-advised at the time, has proven to be golden as we look back at what Psy has been able to do at YG since then.

First meeting at Lexy's featuring work back in 2004, Psy and YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk eventually became close associates as Psy's production company, Amazon, and YG developed into business partners. Eventually, Psy, feeling the need to focus on music, chose YG as his guardian, so to speak.

As we know, the results have been nothing short of fantastic. "Gangnam Style" saw an enormous success on iTunes and YouTube en route to breaking all sorts of world records. The follow-up, "Gentleman," is more than holding its own on YouTube and music charts.

The greatest contribution from YG may be the objective, constructive criticism that can only be offered by a veteran more experienced and insightful than Psy. Yang Hyun Suk has been that voice of reason and wisdom for the global sensation.

YG Entertainment successfully completed international tours with Big Bang and 2NE1 last year. Furthermore, it manages Epik High, Se7en, Gummy and Lee Hi.

The constant push to improve without settling at the present success, that is what has been behind the success of Psy and YG Entertainment. Certainly, their best years are still to be had.
