Can you see other actors playing the role of the grim reaper on "Goblin"? Preferably not, but did you know that Lee Dong Wook almost missed the chance of playing the said dark role?
According to All Kpop, the "Bubble Gum" actor got rejected for more than two times by Kim Eun Sook, the writer of "Goblin" who's also responsible for hit Korean dramas like "Descendants of the Sun" and "The Heirs". It was said that Lee Dong Wook came across the official script of the drama and showed his sincere interest on playing any role.
Fans could have noted that Lee Dong Wook have several lead roles on his palm but for "Goblin", he showed his interest in playing any role including the second lead role since he truly liked the plot of the drama.
Unfortunately, his interest did not impressed the show's writer at first since the writer can't see Lee Dong Wook fit for the role of the grim reaper.
Drama Fever also noted that Lee Dong Wook's agency, King Kong Entertainment, already assisted him in convincing the writer to reconsider him where the CEO himself got in touch with Kim Eun Sook personally. However, the said meeting didn't fruit as well.
Despite numerous rejections, it seems that Lee Dong Wook is one of those strong-willed actors in the industry. Reports also stated that the actor requested for a personal meet up with the writer to talk about the past rejections he had and what negotiations can be made.
Although there were no official statements from Kim Eun Sook yet on what made her change her mind, Lee Dong Wook's perseverance paid off and now, viewers are enjoying seeing him play as the grim reaper.
"Goblin" is currently on its 12th episode and viewers are continuously praising the show for its great episode-by-episode storyline and its movie-like cinematography. The actors of the show including Lee Dong Wook are also admired for their skills on acting different emotions per episode.
