Why Aren’t Fans Happy with EXO's Kai New Drama?

On January 11, netizens got a shocking news about EXO's Kai being casted as the lead male in an upcoming KBS drama, "Andante". The news has been a hot topic ever since.

Unfortunately, both his and EXO's fans reactions are not quite what the idol would expect. As reported by Allkpop, some of EXO-Ls (as how the fans call themselves), are dead set against Kai appearing in the drama. Mostly they are questioning his ability to act for a public station drama, and how unfair it is to cast another idol to be the lead role.

EXO-Ls note that Kai simply doesn't have enough experience related to acting. Back in 2016 Kai starred in two web dramas; "Choco Bank" and "7 First Kisses". "Choco Bank" was produced by Cheil Worldwide Inc., a sub-group managed under Samsung. "Choco Bank" aired for 6 episodes, and it became the most popular web drama in the first half of 2016. Kai played a role of a freshly graduated guy who pursued finance.

In "7 First Kisses", Kai played a role of himself. He appeared in the fifth episode, and his love interest was his Mandarin language teacher played by actress Lee Cho Hee. Moving back to the discussion of "Andante", on Korean online forum fans and netizens alike think that web dramas can't be a guarantee for Kai to act well. According to Korea Portal they also voice out their worry about their beloved idol with a question; what if the drama gets low rating?

"Andante" has an interesting plot about coming of age tale. The lead role is a high school student who suddenly has move to the countryside. However, following the harsh reaction from netizens, as for now KBS has announced that Kai's acting has not final yet and it is still under discussion.
