In one of the recently held interviews with GFRIEND for their new album, "The Awakening", the group mentioned that they are in a friendly rivalry against TWICE. Sowon, a member of GFRIEND, says that they are good friend with the TWICE members.
She then goes on explaining that she really doesn't want to call them rivals, however, using the term rival is healthy for them because it would surely be boring to have no rival in the industry. Sowon then adds that they had also texted each other, exchanging compliments every now and then regarding their respective music videos.
One can see here that the two groups are helping each other out, as GFRIEND admits that TWICE, as well as them, are motivating each other to work harder. They also added that even though they are roughly in the same age bracket, they still have different concepts and themes to their songs, making them entirely unique in one way or another.
According to Soompi, GFRIEND and TWICE are working together to bring about diversity in the K-pop industry. For them, their respective differences in songs and performances are making the industry more competitive and vibrant.
GFRIEND also says that they are showcasing the other side of their selves in their latest album, "The Awakening". The group also confirmed that they are not hitting chart-topping records this time, because what is more important to them is that they will show that they are versatile.
Meanwhile, GFRIEND is reported to appear on a performance in Mnet's "M Countdown". This will be on March 9. With all of these being said, GFRIEND is surely on the right track, together with TWICE. Hopefully, they'll land on collaboration in the future. Surely, if that ever happens, it would be one of the best music performances ever made.
