Kim Young Ae Loses Battle Against Cancer, Dies at 65

Veteran screen and television actress Kim Young Ae has passed away on Sunday. She died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 65, just 10 days shy of her 66th birthday.

According to Korea Times, Kim Young Ae was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2012 while starring for MBC's "Moon Embracing Sun". She fortunately was cured of the disease.

However, the cancer relapsed as she started filming "Laurel Tree Tailors" for KBS. Her love for acting has not faltered and she eventually finished filming for the drama despite her worsening condition.

Kim Young Ae has also worked on more projects despite the lingering cancer in her pancreas. Kim Young Ae had done 8 movies and 7 TV series during the past 5 years.

Kim Young Ae fell into a critical condition a month ago in March according to his son, Lee Min Woo. The actress finally succumbed to her death on April 9, a Sunday.

Kim Young Ae was born in April 21, 1951 in the Yeongdo District of Busan. According to Wikipedia, her acting career began in 1971 during MBC's 3rd Open Recruitment.

Kim Young Ae eventually moved up the entertainment ladder and made her debut in acting in the TV series "Chief Inspector". Since then, Kim Young Ae's acting career has been continuous.

Kim Young Ae has been a prominent figure in the 70s and early 80s. She made her film debut in 1973 for the movie "Long Live the Island Frogs".

Kim Young Ae's most notable appearance was in the 1976 movie "Wang Sib Ri, My Hometown" (A Bygone Romance), and in the 1981 film "Suddenly at Midnight". She also appeared in the 1988 movie "Diary of King Yeonsan" which won the Best Film award during the Grand Bell Awards.

Kim Young Ae now leaves the entertainment industry after 46 years of acting. The veteran actress' funeral will be at the Yonsei Severance Hospital.
