Gong Yoo won the Best Actor award at the prestigious Baeksang art Awards the other day but the audience were surprised by his surprising and tearful speech addressed to his mother during the ceremony. The actor admitted to being a bad son recently and said sorry to his mother for being remiss in his duties as her offspring.
According to a report by Koreaboo, Gong Yoo received the top actor award for his portrayal as Kim Shin in the megahit fantasy series "Goblin." The actor won the award over top ranked actors Namgoong Min (Chief Kim), Park Bo Gum (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds), Jo Jung Suk (Don't Dare to Dream) and Han Suk Gyu (Romantic Doctor Kim).
In his speech, the "Train to Busan" actor did not forget to thank his fellow cast members, the scriptwriter, director and the entire crew that worked hard on the set of "Goblin". He also thanked the fans for their support for the drama.
What made the speech more meaningful was when Gong Yoo dedicated the award to his mother and acknowledged his shortcomings as her son. He said that he felt very sorry towards his parent and wished that she would lead a long and healthy life.
"Since I was busy going between my house and the broadcast station, my mother says that she's become a bit disappointed in me recently," Gong Yoo said in his tearful apology. " She says that I feel like I'm someone else's son and not hers."
According to Soompi, Gong Yoo was also very emotional during a recent fan meeting in Taiwan after watching a fan made a video. The actor was moved to tears and said that while he is tired from working so hard without taking a break, he promised that he will take their support as a source of strength to become a stronger person.
