Jung Joon-Young Scandal

Popular k-pop singer, Jung Joon-young, were arrested after being involved in a sex scandal. It was found out that he was secretly filming sex videos of at least 10 women with fellow idols and friends and sharing them online in private group chats.

jung is said to be the leader of the spycam porn sex-crime scandal together with other fellow artists, Seungri of Big Bang, Lee Jong-hyun of CNBlue, Choi Jong-hoon of FT Island and Yong Jun-hyung of K-pop outfit Highlight.

Below is the statement of Jung;

"I'm writing this out of shame and guilt. I've returned to Korea on March 12th and realized the seriousness of the situation. I'm writing this to apologize to all the people who have paid attention to me, and gave me a second chance," he said in a statement, according to JoongAng Ilbo's VoomVoom news site.

He added, "As to all the charges that are being mentioned about me, I admit all of them. I filmed videos of women without their consent and shared them on social media chat rooms without feeling guilty about it."

Jung Joon-young described his crimes as "immoral and indiscreet act of me to do as a public figure that deserves to be condemned."

"Most of all, the women in the videos who had to face the hideous truth and all the people who are infuriated at the extremely disappointing and shocking situation, I sincerely apologize," he said. "I'm dropping out of every program that I'm cast of. I'm also giving up everything as a public figure and will reflect on myself for all the unethical and illegal acts I've done for the rest of my life."

Jung Joon-young said, "I, again, apologize especially to the women who were harmed because of my behavior and people who felt resentment beyond disappointment as well as those who made me and loved me."

The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Jung after he apologized to all his victims and to "everyone who showed affection for me." On March 21, he was arrested for the said crime. The news became a hot topic in Korea not because an Idol was involved but because women are already voicing out against toxic masculinity.

High profile men from different industries were being involved in such crime and as per a sociologist at the University of Seoul, Michael Hurt, " I don't think K-pop has a masculinity problem, I think Korean society does. Korean men have weaponised the camera. Victims of such crimes are often threatened with blackmail."
