Former JBJ member Kwon Hyun Bin is debuting as a soloist. And to start fresh, he will be using a new stage name, “VIINI.”
VIINI, who also made waves in the K-pop scene as a contender of the talent search Produce 101 Season 2, will launch his first EP called “Dimension” on August 19.
In the set of teasers he released, the 22-year-old idol oozes with charisma and shows off strong manly vibes. From black-and-white images to ones where he pulls off a sultry red-themed ensemble, VIINI displays his readiness to embark on a new journey as a soloist.
Earlier in May, his agency YGX confirmed that he will be “debuting as a solo artist this summer.”
To further create hype about his solo debut, VIINI also launched his own YouTube channel, a platform where he can share with his fans the preparations he is doing for his newest offering. Through the page, fans can also get a glimpse of how his daily life goes by.
Through his channel, VIINI shared why his upcoming solo debut is worth anticipating.
“I thought a lot about how to make up for the long break I’ve taken for me to be able to create music that can satisfy everyone… I will work really hard to become an artist my fans can be proud of,” he remarked, expressing his gratitude to his fans who have “quietly supported and waited for [him].”
Prior to his break, the model-turned-idol has been seen on variety shows like MBC’s “Dunia: Into A New World” and JTBC’s “Try It.”
As a member of the special project band JBJ -- composed of Produce Season 2 alums including Roh Tae Hyun, Kenta Takada, Ki Sang Gyun, Jin Longguo, and Kim Dong Han -- VIINI took part in two EPs (“Fantasy,” “True Colors”) and one special album (“New Moon”).
The band, which debuted in October 2017, concluded their K-pop journey with a concert in Seoul in April 2018. They officially disbanded during the same month.
