The group from the Produce X 101 boy group Project formed last year, X1 under CJ ENM, had not received any payment yet following their multi-million debut sales before disbanding.
It has now been 42 days or six weeks since the disbandment of X1, and the settlement fees for their short period together have still been zero, they have not received even a penny. CJ ENM CEO Heo Minhee stated at his press conference following X1's disbandment that the company will be held responsible for the events that led to the group's disbandment. However, the issue of payment for activities has still not resolved.
According to media outlets, the agencies of the X1 members have asked CJ ENM several times to settle their payments for X1's activities, but the company that formed the group has not left a message. Even though X1 sold more than 300,000 physical albums, filled the Gocheok Sky Dome, and participated in overseas events, the members and agencies were still not paid. In the meantime, CJ ENM revealed that they had pocketed hundreds of millions of won due to the Produce series, including 88 million won ($74,568) just from mobile voting alone.
Back in November 2019, CJ ENM responded to reports that X1 was still not paid yet as the payments for them are made on a quarterly schedule. And since it has only been about three months since their debut, it is not time for their fees to be received.
However, one K-Pop insider commented on how Mnet should focus on cleanly finishing X1 and supporting IZ*ONE, before turning to the rest of the K-Pop industry. It depends on how we can interpret what Mnet means by giving up their interests, as it is a matter of speech. Before growing the K-Pop industry growth fund, a clean finish of X1 and supporting IZ*ONE's activities to the end should come first.
Project boy group X1 is finally taking steps to part ways. The influence of the ranking manipulation controversy surrounding CJ ENM music channel Mnet idol survival program "Produce X 101," the fourth season of the "Produce" series. The group released its first album "Emergency: Quantum Leap" in August last year, has been put into a phase where controversy over manipulation has grown.
The "Produce" series is a format that selects members of a project idol group who are active for a certain period through a viewer vote, losing justification for their activities after the membership selection process found to have been not transparent.
The X1 members' agencies include PlayM Entertainment, Yuehwa Entertainment, TOP Media, MBK Entertainment, Woollim Entertainment, DSP Media, Starship Entertainment, and Brand New Music. They have issued a joint statement after the meeting, saying they "agreed on principle with each member's agency and decided to disband."
Under the circumstances, CJ ENM held a press conference on April 30 and said that they would support everything related to the resumption of X1's activities, and the "Produce 48" girl group project IZ*ONE will still proceed with their promotions until they finish their contra
