Monsta X recently sat down for an exclusive interview with TIME, following the success of their first all-English album 'ALL ABOUT LUV'.
The album charted 5th on Billboard 200, an amazing feat that made them the third K-pop group to penetrate the Top 10 after BTS and SuperM.
"A new language introduces a new way of expressing. Monsta X has communicated in English in the United States, launched a pop song cover stage, and the help of member I.M combined to gradually increase the comfort of working in English," said TIME.
Minhyuk, the sextet's vocals, shared that using the English language makes the words feel softer and the pronunciation flexible and more evocative. The American news outlet added that even the dance choreo that accompanies the songs and emotions are conveyed differently compared to their past releases.
"The song 'Misbehave' could be transmitted smoothly through English lyrics," shared Minhyuk.
"The whole mood of the album is calm and lonely. Like 'Middle of the Night', we wanted to match the dance movement with the song. The performance of the Korean album and the performance of this song are different types of sexy. If Korea is strong and powerful sexy, 'Middle of the Night' is a gentle type of sexy," leader Shownu added.
Lead rapper I.M, who takes a lot of pride in his dynamic rap delivery, recorded a special portion of the vocal and incorporated it in the album, making its melody versatile. Certainly, it introduced a new sound in the K-pop realm.
Speaking of the rapid growth of Monsta X across the globe, TIME reported, "The music of this album is already making its way into a space where K-pop is barely heard. It has also been heard in various stores in Turkey and the UK since the latest episode of the American TV series 'Riverdale'. When you are returning to a much larger city than you were performing just a year ago, you prove their rapid growth. "
'Who Do U Love' was recently heard in one episode of the TV show.
Finally, when asked how to measure the success of the album, Monsta X ended up saying, "I don't want to get stuck in the framework of success. If we and our fans are happy with it, we're done with it."
At the time of the album release, TIME selected the title track 'YOU CAN'T HOLD MY HEART' as 'Best Song of the Week 5' and was very interested in Monsta X. The sextet is showing remarkable progress as a global artist through an exclusive interview of this new album.
Moreover, Monsta X has achieved high results through the recently released US first regular album 'ALL ABOUT LUV'. They ranked fifth on the Billboard 200 chart. In addition, the company entered the top 10 on seven billboard charts, including the Billboard Artist 100 chart.
They are also attracting great attention in the global music market, ranking seventh on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Album chart and first on Radio Disney's Top Radio Disney Songs chart.
