Goo Hara's mother, who abandoned her and her older brother, is back to the bereaved family's life to claim the 50% of inheritance that the late idol has left behind.
Upon the request, the former singer's brother, Goo In Ho, and their biological father filed a dispute, stating that she doesn't have any rights from any of Goo Hara's after being absent from her children's life.
It was noted that when Hara and his brother were 9, their mother left their home, running away from the responsibilities of a mother and wife. The siblings' father then had to raise his children alone, doing all kinds of work around Korea to support them. Goo Hara and her brother grew up with their grandmother, aunts and uncles, lacking love from their biological parents. This is why Hara's brother and father are not happy about the claim.
"We cannot accept her request. She abandoned her children and ran away from home. What rights does she have? I have traveled around Korea to support Hara and her brother, spending their school days without a mother," said Hara's father.
In addition to this, in an article by Dispatch, it revealed on the March 9 that after Hara's father rejected the 50% of the inheritance that is split half between him and his son, the mother has then claimed the other 50%.
It started during the wake and funeral of the late star in November of 2019, wherein her mother appeared trying to become the chief mourner. Goo In Ho, Hara's brother also revealed on the media that her mother tried to cause disturbance during the wake, wherein she tried to take videos. However, it was deleted after them finding it out.
Days after, Goo In Ho was contacted by lawyers, talking about an issue about Hara's real estate. "She [their mother] has appointed lawyers after finding out she can get some inheritance. I felt so betrayed."
Last year, Goo Hara was known as the top 10 richest K-pop artists and with one of the highest net worth. She's also known for being the owner of several real states and properties around the country.
Go In Ho then talked about his thoughts and feelings through a press release, also revealing note from Goo Hara's record last 2016, talking about how she's been longing for her mother.
"I miss my mom. I really miss my mom."
Hara's brother also narrated that when their mother has left them, their father acted oddly, and their dad then committed an extreme decision due to his pain that day as well. The siblings witnessed everything as their father was being taken away by an ambulance, and from then and there, they thought, "mother has abandoned us."
Growing up with scars, Goo Hara and her brother grew up with a void created after their own mother deserted them when they were kids. This is why Goo In Ho took the courage to raise the issue about their mother, who is now claiming she's a "mother" after being the cause of pain of the late idol.
"I am so angry that she's playing a pretend mother after she's gone. I can't believe that she's spitting out the word 'mother'," he said.
According to the Civil Act, a mother or father can claim an inheritance from their kids even if they didn't raise them. However, Goo In Ho filed a request for a trial as their need to have protection from a parent who comes after financial gains after the death of a child they abandoned.
