BTS, alongside their agency Big Hit Entertainment, just donated USD 1 million to the Live Nation's Crew Nation.
Crew Nation was launched in late March to help benefit live event staff, who are having trouble making ends meet due to the coronavirus pandemic. As many know, numerous live events were postponed or canceled due to the virus.
Live Nation commenced the campaign by donating USD 10 million, of which USD 5 million of it was the initial donation and matching the next USD 5 million from artists, fans, and employees.
Crew Nation will help over 1,000 concert crew members, and workers of all nationalities can apply. This campaign will also help the crew members, who were scheduled to work alongside BTS during the group's "Map of the Soul" tour. The tour was meant to start soon, with stadiums across South Korea, North America, Europe, and Japan being sold out. However, it was postponed in late April.
BTS said, "If it weren't for COVID-19, we would be happily touring across the world with our live concert crew. We are aware that a lot of communities need help during these times due to COVID-10, and we wanted to help support the music industry crew by making a donation. We hope to meet again on stage soon."
Big Hit Entertainment's Global CEO, Lenzo Yoon, also shared his thoughts, saying, "It is unfortunate that the music industry has to through such a difficult time now. We hope our contributions to Crew Nation can support many live concert crews around the world."
Previously, BTS donated USD 1 million towards the "Black Lives Matter" movement, which ARMYs quickly matched and even exceeded. The group has been involved in charitable causes since 2015.
Since BTS were unable to push through with their world tour, they recently held a virtual concert to mark their 7th anniversary as a group called "Bang Bang Con: The Live." Over 756,000 people tuned into the paid concert live stream.
