Kyuhyun debuted in 2006 as a member of SM Entertainment's first-generation boy band, Super Junior. In 2010, he released his first solo track, titled "Listen To You," as part of the OST of the Korean drama, "Pasta."
Kyuhyun once opened up about the hardships of becoming a Super Junior member. He recalled that while he was immediately given the debut stage after two months of training, being actually in the group was never easy at all. He used to feel like he was disliked by the other twelve members and was scolded by the leader Leeteuk in the early days.
However, he revealed that the moment Leeteuk embraced him and assured him that he had worked hard with the team too, he was set free from the feeling of not being part of the group.
In 2016, SM Entertainment announced that Kyuhyun will have a break from his activities because of vocal cord nodules as well as undergoing surgeries. The following year, he enlisted in the military as a social service worker at the Nonsan Army Training Center. He was discharged in May 2019.
