MNET'S male group competition is now facing cancellation, as reported by the organizer of the show. On the 29th of July, an exclusive report revealed that Mnet's male group competition, "Kingdom," that is already scheduled, is now on the brink of cancellation as issues of lineup casting arise.
The mentioned show is the boy group version of the well-known girl group counterpart, "Queendom" that was aired in 2019.In April of 2020, "Road to Kingdom" was organized by Mnet to prepare the audience for "Kingdom." The male group, "The Boyz," took the 1st place among the other entire contestants who automatically made them advanced to the main contest.
However, the issue came in after insiders noted that the staff of the aforementioned group has been doing consequent reformatting of the list of artists that will complete the line up for the fast months; but failed to complete it.
Aside from that, a rookie male idol group, "TOO," also part of the "Road to Kingdom," has been allegedly facing criticisms from the organizer of the program. The boy band has been noted to have less experience compared to the other contestants.
In line with the said matter, rumors have it that the casting line up of the show is linking CJ ENM as the one that prioritizes bands which have accumulated funds in the past as well as financial investments. Thus, the entertainment insider mentioned, "Suddenly, there came a time that discussion about 'Kingdom' abruptly halted. It may seem that the production ruled out that having it within the year is something complicated to pursue."
"Road to Kingdom" was only fierce within the fandom and failed to win public sympathy. The agencies are deeply concerned about whether boy groups, mainly fandom-type, are gathering and following in the footsteps of the former.
The "Road to Kingdom" winner, The Boyz, is preparing to make a comeback in the second half of the year apart from being part of the show. Multiple officials said, "The story of the production of 'Kingdom' came into my mind. I understand that we have concluded that we will not be able to do so within this year." Mnet also said the formation of the "Kingdom" has yet to be confirmed," according to statements.
In October of last year, girl group MAMAMOO was declared the champion of the said MNET competition. They were the final performer on the night of the finale show, of which they have explosively shown their extreme confidence while performing their track, "Destiny." Hwasa mentioned that it is the best song of the group. Oh My Girl bagged the second place.
