3. ATEEZ
ATEEZ took third place with four votes.
ATEEZ debuted in 2018 under KQ Entertainment. Despite coming from a small and relatively unknown company, the boys were able to rise against the odds and are successful. And it seems fellow idols recognize this as well, as they hope the group continues to rise in popularity!
Before their debut, ATEEZ were introduced as KQ Fellaz, a pre-debut group under the company. On KQ Entertainment's official YouTube channel, the boys would post videos of their dancing. Additionally, the company launched "KQ Fellaz American Training," a series that follows the boys as they train in America. The group can be seen as composing, choreographing, and practicing. They released a song called "From" that stemmed from the show. Following that series, KQ Entertainment announced their group name ATEEZ alongside a Mnet reality show for the boys called "Code Name is Ateez."
The boys debuted in October 2018. They won their first music show win on October 25, proving their popularity. The boys embarked on their first tour, a North American tour in 2019, in which all show dates were sold out. They announced more tour dates and expanded the tour to Europe. All of the tickers were sold out. Later that year, they toured Australia.
In November of 2019, the boys debuted in Japan. In 2020, the boys were named as a promotional ambassador of The Korean Culture and Information Service and will be promoting Korean culture abroad.
2. ITZY
ITZY took second place with seven points.
ITZY debuted in 2019 under JYP Entertainment. The group was known as "monster rookies" due to their record-breaking debut and their popularity even before their debut.
Before debuting as ITZY, the members already made public appearances. Chaeyeong was a contestant on "K-Pop Star 3", where she was scouted to join the label in 2013. In 2015, the singer joined the JYP Entertainment survival show "SIXTEEN," but did not end up making the line-up for TWICE. In 2018, Ryujin competed on JTBC's "Mix Nine," where she placed first amongst the girls. She did not make her debut with them, however, as the boys' team had won overall. In 2017, both Ryujin and Yuna appeared in BTS's "LOVE YOURSELF Highlight Reel," with Ryujin being Jimin and J-Hope's partner, and Yuna being Jungkook's partner. Yeji was a contestant on SBS' "The Fan." Additionally, all the members except Lia had appeared in the show "Stray Kids."
When ITZY made their debut, their song immediately entered the World Digital Songs Chart at number 2, making the song one of the biggest Billboard debut in years. At the time, "Dalla Dalla" was the second most popular song on YouTube. They had broken the record for the most viewed K-Pop debut music video within 24 hours and won their first music show win eight days after their debut, making them the fastest girl group to achieve this feat.
In 220, the girls embarked on a United States showcase tour.
1. SEVENTEEN
Lastly, SEVENTEEN took the throne as the K-Pop group fellow idols hoped to get more popular this year. The group snagged 10 points.
SEVENTEEN is the oldest group on the list, debuting in 2015 under Pledis Entertainment. The group has thirteen members divided into three sub-units: Hip-Hop, Vocal, and Performance. The group has gained popularity for being a self-producing group; the members are active in producing, songwriting, choreography, and more.
The boys had moderate success with "Pretty U" and "Very Nice" in 2016. However, the boys achieved breakthrough success in Korea two years after their debut with "Don't Wanna Cry." The song had peaked at number one in Korea and sold over 334,000 copies. They saw even more success with their next comeback, "THANKS." The song topped the iTunes Charts in 29 countries and has sold over 600,000 copies.
The group's success continues to rise, with their 2019 song "Home" being their most popular track yet. The song won ten music show wins, and the EP it came from bagged two triple crowns. They then released "Hit," which sold over 700,000 copies in its first week and granted the group's first daesang for "Album of the Year."
Their latest album, "Heng:garae", sold over 1,000,000 copies in under a week, proving their monumental growth.
