Former Boyfriend of Late Goo Hara Sues Netizens for Malicious Comments

Goo Hara's former boyfriend is taking legal actions against those who slander him.

Choi Jong Bum, who was put on trial for assaulting and threatening the late K-pop idol Goo Hara, sued internet users who wrote malicious comments about him. According to his legal circle on the 21st, Choi filed a complaint at the police station in June against netizens who posted insulting remarks, which is based on the article on charges of violating the Information and Communication Network Act (defamation) and insulting the law.

Choi's lawyer explained the reason for the complaint, saying that he understands that Choi has been under extreme stress due to consistent bad news about his client. As many people came to protest, Choi's hair salon was also affected, leading to closing its doors. Thus, police have reportedly called in defendants since last week to conduct a full-fledged investigation.

Meanwhile, Choi Jong Bum was put on trial on charges of assaulting Goo Hara in September 2018 as accused of injuring his former lover's cervical and lumbar spine and threatening to distribute sex videos to the media.

On the 1st trial in August of last year, the court sentenced him to one and a half years in prison with a three-year suspension, saying, "The accused committed crimes that are highly likely to be criticized by reporting sex videos to the media and threatening to kill celebrities, but did not distribute the videos without consent."

Later, both the prosecution and Choi appealed. Last month, the second trial court overturned the first trial's ruling and sentenced Choi to one year in prison. Since then, both the prosecution and Choi have appealed, awaiting the Supreme Court's decision. He is currently under custody.

Goo Hara's brother, Goo Ho In, responded with Choi Jung Bom's latest news in July and said that giving a source of comfort for their family, although it will never ultimately ease the pain. They are saddened that he was never found guilty over the illegal filming.

Back in October 2018, Choi Jong Bum became a huge topic after Police Gangnam Station requested a warrant of arrest served to him for injury and blackmailing charges done to his former girlfriend and K-pop star, Goo Hara.

The following year, Goo Hara was found dead at her residence with the cause of suicide and speculations that her miseries, including such scandal, is part of the triggering factor for her to end her life.
