On August 23, Sunday, Tedro Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the current Director-General of the World Health Organization, took to Twitter to invite the BTS members to the World Health Organization's World Health Assembly, and their latest hit single "Dynamite"!
The World Health Assembly is the World Health Organization's (WHO) decision-making body. It is attended by delegations from all WHO member states and puts a spotlight on a specific health plan by the Executive Board. The main functions of the Assembly are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint a new Director-General, supervise financial systems, and review and approve a proposed program budget.
This year's World Health Assembly has already passed and was held virtually in May 2020. It appears they are invited to the one next year. If the coronavirus pandemic lets up by then, it will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, just like the past ones.
BTS continues to prove that they are such an influential group, with their influences going far beyond the music industry.
This is not the first time BTS has been invited to such an event. In 2018, BTS was invited to and gave a speech at the United Nations. During the event, the BTS member spoke about their advocacy, the "Love Myself" campaign, the importance of loving and respecting oneself, and how global leaders should listen to the voice of the youth. The campaign is an anti-violence campaign aimed to protect the youth so they can live their lives without fear of violence. BTS is also known for supporting UNICEF's #ENDViolence campaign, which is a campaign to end bullying among youths.
The members themselves prove that they are worthy of attending such events. Just recently, BTS's Jimin donated 100 million Korean won to the students in South Korea's South Jeolla province. The donation is meant to assist scholarship funds for disadvantaged students in the province to give them a chance to attend a good school. In February, Jimin donated new desks and chairs to all 1,200 students to Busan High School of Arts, his alma mater.
This month, BTS member J-Hope donated 100 million Korean won to the Green Umbrella Child Fun, with the donation meant to assist vulnerable children who are currently suffering through financial difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic. He is part of the Green Noble Club, a group of people from varying professions who have donated large sums of money to the Green Umbrella Child Fund.
BTS, as a whole, is known for being charitable. Back in June, BTS, along with their label Big Hit Entertainment donated $1 million to Live Nation's Crew Nation, with the donation meant to assist live event staff who can no longer wonder due to the coronavirus pandemic having canceled numerous live events.
That same month, BTS and their company donated $1 million to the Black Lives Matter movement. After news broke out of BTS's donation, their fans, the ARMYs, matched their donation and raised $1 million for the same movement.
Charitable kings! It's unconfirmed if BTS will be attending WHO's World Health Assembly, but them being invited shows that their influence has gone global and that their good deeds have not gone unnoticed.
