NCTzens (fans of NCT) are enraged after a Filipino viewer watching Renjun's V Live asked him to read out Filipino words, with one of them turning out to be a curse word.
On August 27, Thursday, Renjun held a live stream while on the way home. Despite being late and dark outside, the idol still took the time to connect and chat with his fans. He was reading numerous fan comments as he steaming, singing short melodies and talking to his fans with a sweet, loving voice.
However, fans started becoming upset when one "fan" asked Renjun to read two words in Filipino. Renjun, who can only speak Chinese and Korean, did not know what it meant. Despite that, he still said the word, seemingly trusting the fans that all the words they ask him to say do not have malicious meaning.
One of the words he was made to say is "put*** ina", a Filipino curse word that, when said, usually means "f**k you". However, the literal translation for it is "your mother is a wh*r*". After Renjun said this, fans were upset that the viewer took advantage of Renjun's lack of knowledge with the language.
The other word he was asked to say was "mahal kita", which means "I love you".
One viewer had taken a screen recording of Renjun saying the curse word and shared it to YouTube. Enraged, fans had asked the uploader to take the video down out of respect for Renjun. The video is still up. As of now, the video has more dislikes than likes, with 2.6k dislikes and 85 likes.
Here are some netizen's comments expressing their disappointment at the viewer who made Renjun curse:
"He did not know what the word meant but just followed the fan's request to say it. He thought it was a good phrase."
"This is not funny, no one laughed. Now stop clout chasing and take the video down."
"I cannot believe someone would make him say that even though it is a bad word."
"You have damaged his reputation by uploading this video. He trusted his fans, thinking it was just a word and he had no idea it was a slur."
"Whoever asked Renjun to say that word, you are disgusting."
"I'm not even an NCT fan but this was mad disrespectful. Whoever requested this should be ashamed. This is not even funny one bit. The uploader should also be ashamed for reposting this. I could only imagine how embarrassed Renjun might feel once he finds out he was tricked into saying profanities. You all think it is fun and games but you literally took advantage of an idol who wants to connect with his international fans. Because of this he or any other idols might become apprehensive in learning or saying new foreign words. SHAME ON YOU."
Fans are leaving numerous comments on the video asking the uploader to take down the video, but there has no been no signs from the uploader that they will do so. NCTzens are asking fans to report the video so YouTube will be moved to take it down themselves.
