Mega-hit girl group BLACKPINK rose to No. 1 at once with their title song 'Lovesick Girls' from their first full album titled 'The Album'. With a time period of only a day and a half after the release of the single, it ranked #1 on the Gaon Chart Weekly Downloads Chart, and after the album release, the song proved even more successful.

According to the Gaon Chart of the 40th week of 2020 (2020.09.27 to 2020.10.03) released on the 8th of October 2020, BLACKPINK's title song from their first regular album 'Lovesick Girls' topped the downloads chart. On Social Chart 2.0, which is also an indicator of the global popularity and reach of artists, BLACKPINK ranked first for 5 consecutive months, proving the consistently rising popularity of BLACKPINK not only in Korea but worldwide.

What seems most interesting is how the steep popularity of 'Lovesick Girls' is unwavering. All songs of 'THE ALBUM,' including 'Lovesick Girls', were released on the 2nd at midnight in the US and 1 o'clock in Korean Standard Time. Keeping in mind that the number was compiled in about a day and a half, the top of the downloads chart is surely a massive achievement and definitely not an easy feat.

'Lovesick Girls' still maintains the top spot on all major domestic music charts on the 6th day since the track's release, and its popularity is nowhere near dimming. Immediately after the song's release, it even ranked 3rd on the Spotify global chart, confirming its strong presence in the mainstream pop market. This has finally cemented BLACKPINK's position as a force to be reckoned with in the International music scene.

BLACKPINK's 'THE ALBUM' in its entirety, sold about 590,000 copies at once as soon as it was released on the 6th of October, based on Hanteo Chart, a domestic album aggregation site, and easily exceeded 600,000 copies in just two days. Additionally, on the very first day of the album's release, merely a day's worth of records was enough to set a new record for the K-pop girl group's all-time initial sales volume, and it is undoubtedly a contestant for becoming a "million" seller.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will be appearing on MBC's show 'Music Core' as well as SBS' 'Inkigayo' successively on the 10th and 11th of October 2020 for a stage showcase of 'Lovesick Girls' and 'Pretty Savage' from 'THE ALBUM.' On the 14th, the Netflix original documentary based on the life and career of BLACKPINK titled, 'BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky,' will also be released.

Fans are overjoyed by this success and cannot wait for the Netflix documentary to be out as it is sure to be heart-warming and touching!
