There is just no slowing down for BLACKPINK! On October 12, Monday, it was announced that BLACKPINK has broken a Billboard Charts record.
The group's first-ever full-length album, "THE ALBUM", peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 Charts. This is the highest a K-pop girl group has ever ranked on the Billboard 200 charts. On top of that, it is the highest a girl group has ever charted since 2008. Previously, girl group Danity Kane peaked at number one with "Welcome to the Doll House".
BLACKPINK is steadily climbing their way up the charts. Their 2018 extended play "SQUARE UP" peaked at number 40 on the charts, while their 2019 release "KILL THIS LOVE" peaked at 24. There's only going up for the girl group!
Back on October 10, Saturday, it was announced that BLACKPINK had made the top 10 in the charts of two of the world's biggest music markets, the United Kingdom and Germany.
In the United Kingdom, "THE ALBUM" peaked at number two on the album charts of the week ending on October 15. The lead title track of "THE ALBUM", "Lovesick Girls" debuted on the UK Official Singles Charts at number 40.
This is the highest-ever ranking for a Korean female act on the United Kingdom music charts, with the group selling 5,700 cassettes sold (recorded as of that week). Previously, "Kil This Love" ranked at number 40 on the charts back in 2019.
It is uncommon for South Korean acts to hit the top 10 of the German charts, but BLACKPINK was able to successfully do so. In Germany's Offiziele Deutsche Charts for albums. BLACKPINK's "THE ALBUM" debuted at number seven on the charts, making BLACKPINK the highest-charting K-pop girl group in Germany.
Prior to the album's physical drop on October 6, it was announced that "THE ALBUM" had surpassed over one million pre-orders. Within the first six days of the opening of pre-orders, over 800,000 units were sold. BLACKPINK is the first female Korean act to do so in 52 years, with the last girl group to do so being The Pearl Sisters in 1968.

It was also recently announced that BLACKPINK had broken the record for the highest first-week album sales for a K-pop girl group in a day. From data from Hanteo Chart, it was announced that BLACKPINK had sold approximately 590,000 copies of "THE ALBUM" within the first day of its physical release. This had beat out IZ*ONE's previous record of 389,334 units in a day. YG Entertainment has stated that the album sales from Europe and the United were not included in the total, meaning the number is possibly much higher.
Upon the release of "THE ALBUM", it topped the charts in New Zealand and ranked within the top ten of Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Norway, and Scotland. It charted within the top 20 in the Netherlands and Italy.
The music video for the title track, "Lovesick Girls", garnered 10 million views on YouTube within the first hour of its release. Within the first 24 hours of its release, the music video amassed over 61.4 million views, making "Lovesick Girls", the sixth biggest 24-hour debut for a music video. The song charted within the top 50 in Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
