Fans, particularly BLINKs, have divided opinions regarding the accusation. On various news media sites, including Malay Mail and Koreanesia, a member of the Malaysian girl group, DOLLA's Sabronzo, speaks out regarding the claims that their group is imitating the world-famous K-pop idol group BLACKPINK.
Based on Yahoo Malaysia, the 25-year-old member debunked the allegations, and claimed that any similarities are coincidental only.
In the Malaysian idol's interview with Harian Metro, Sabronzo said, "I am aware that a lot of people believe that we are copying the style and stage of BLACKPINK."
She added, "However, any resemblance is coincidental."
The young idol continued that because there are not many Malaysian girl groups aside from Feminin and Elite, so she strongly claimed that are striving to create a unique identity.
In March, the quartet girl group debuted under the name of DOLLA which released their first track, "Make You Wanna."
Despite gaining almost 2 Million views since release, there are more than 6k dislikes in the video, and netizens in the comments section of YouTube were debating that it is an imitation of the K-pop group.
According to reports, DOLLA also received criticisms for their sexy and sultry concept, which also allegedly exudes the vibes of BLACKPINK when they debuted, wearing street wears, not to mention the other member named Syasya, who allegedly had the same hairstyle as BLACKPINK Lisa making her look similar to her.
As the reports reached K-pop enthusiasts particularly, BLINK (BLACKPINK fandom), there are divided opinions about the accusations that are already cleared by the members, but the majority of the comments were praising the girl group.
According to BLINKs, "BLACKPINK is BLACKPINK, and DOLLA is DOLLA."
Though there are similarities in the girl crush concept, netizens and fans are saying that nobody owns the concept and fashion, while in fact, there are few groups prior to BLACKPINK who also did the same style and concept such as 2NE1, Brown-eyed Girls, etc.
K-pop fans also think that MAMAMOO also has the same vibes, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are copying BLACKPINK.
According to some music fans as well who are engaging in a wide range of the music spectrum, it is a blessing-in-disguise as they only knew that DOLLA exists after the reports, and several fans are already captured by the Malaysian group.
In fact, looking at their Music video for "Make You Wanna," posted by Universal Music Malaysia, there are a lot of positive comments such as:
"This is so good; they are all beautiful."
"Yo, they slay. I came here because I read they were copying BLACKPINK but, how? They got their own vibe."
"Okay, as a K-pop fan, I approve, they are so great."
"Please don't compare DOLLA and BLACKPINK. Both groups are super talented."
DOLLA, which comprises Sabrina (Sabronzo), Tabby, Syasya, and Angel aims to be the "new-gen group" that will pursue women empowerment and self-confidence in Malaysia.
With their beauty and talents, they are slowly paving their way, and are also being recognized by iDollas, their fans, and music fans.
This upcoming October 30, DOLLA will be coming back with their single, "Impikan," who also has an ongoing TikTok challenge prior to the release.
