On Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, SM Entertainment shared teasers for NCT 2020's upcoming album 'RESONANCE Pt.2' to their social media accounts. While it initially sparked interest, netizens quickly pointed out the uncanny resemblance of the teasers to designer label Sunnei's 2020 campaign. Read more about it here.
As a sequel to their highly successful 'RESONANCE Pt.1', SM Entertainment has teased fans for the upcoming second half. The teasers show the members in avant-garde clothing as they stand side-by-side in three rows. The boys are seen with straight faces and similar poses; some with their hands in their pockets and most with their hands to the side.
Overall, the teaser is simple. The boys are pictured against a white background and their group name, the album name, and the names of the members are in black to stand out.
While it initially piqued interest from both local and international fans, people started noticing how similar the concepts are to the campaign photos are to Sunnei's SS20 Collection. The campaign was released in February of this year and is meant to celebrate the brand's fifth-year anniversary. The models are seen wearing clothing similar to NCT's concept and all have the same straight-faced look. Like NCT's teasers, the models are lined up side-by-side in three rows.
Upon close look, member Sungchan is even seen wearing Sunnei's 'I hate "fashion"' shirt, which is one of their most popular items from the collection.
A netizen who pointed this out says, "The teaser for NCT's new album is obviously copied for Sunnei's 22 S/S Campaign photos....?! They even used Sunnei's 'I hate fashion' shirt. Did they use it as a reference or did they just copy?"
Korean netizens are accusing SM Entertainment of plagiarizing, saying that NCT's teasers are nearly identically to Sunnei's campaign photos. They also commented that SM Entertainment has a long history of plagiarism and has been accused of it many times before.

"They copied this way too much."
"They copied it identically. This is plagiarism. Well, this is not the first or second time."
"Why? This isn't even the first or second time. SM Entertainment, please wake up!"
"This company has a long history of plagiarism. I remember before, Red Velvet also plagiarized the outfits of a foreign designer."
"SM Entertainment really has no conscience."
"Honestly, this is plagiarism."
"If this is confirmed to be plagiarism, please change your coordi and switch the concept. What the hell does SM Entertainment think they are doing?"
"I think they copied it."
This is not the first time this year SM Entertainment was accused of plagiarism. Back in October, SM Entertainment was accused of plagiarizing the photos of Bryan Hyunh for Aespa's member teasers. At the time, the photographer himself called out Aespa for the similarities in his work with their teasers on his Instagram account.
Both works featured the same color palette and had their subjects in an avater-esque wold, with neon flowers and illuminating plants surrounding them. At the time, many Korean netizens called out SM Entertainment, claiming that the color, composition, and designs of Aespa's teasers were too similar to Bryan Hyunh's work.
