EXO Xiumin's Military Discharge: First EXO Member to Finish Service
On May 7, 2019, Xiumin became the first member of popular K-pop boy group EXO to join the military, as well as fulfilled his duty of national defense after receiving basic military training.
During his service, the eldest member of the group also joined the ARMY Creative Musical, "Return: The Promise of the Day," where he played the role of the young Seung Ho in 2019 and got the role of Hyun Min in the re-enactment show of the same musical this year. The original-made military musical received lots of support and love from fans, recording approximately 2.8 million viewers during the re-run's live broadcast in June.
The single track is part of SM Station 3, a digital music project of SM Entertainment uploaded on various music platforms, including YouTube.
The song currently surpassed 8.4 million views on the said platform, with more than 681,000 likes and numerous comments from K-pop fans and listeners commending his vocal abilities.
Xiumin, who debuted as an EXO member in 2012, built his name and part of the group's sub-unit or trio along with Baekhyun and Chen.
However, since Chen is currently serving the military, music fans are guessing if he will join the remaining members, including Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Sehun, and Kai and Lay for an EXO comeback, or if he will be pursuing his activities with a solo album.
