Sojung Shares the Hardship in Promoting after Ladies' Code Tragic Accident

Ladies' Code's Sojung opened up about the difficulties the group experienced after the tragic car crash that took place back in September 2014 taking the lives of two of the band's members.

In the latest episode of JTBC's "Sing Again," which aired on Nov. 30, Sojung appeared as contestant No. 11, showing off her outstanding vocal abilities. "Sing Again" is a rebooting program that gives a second chance to singers who never attained stardom during their days, or stars who were popular before but are now forgotten.

After her performance, she talked about her devastating story and what she aims to become in the future. She said that she wants to become a singer who can smile again. "I debuted in a five-member group, but following an accident, we became a 3-member band. My heart ached, even more, when people see us on TV and call us the pitiful group," she stated.

Yoo Hee Yeol, who was one of the judges of the show, remembered the dreadful car crash that caused the death of late RiSe and EunB. He praised Sojung's performance, saying that it was amazing. "You've been through something very difficult. We didn't know at first, but when you mentioned your group name, I remembered," Yoo added.

The singer was then asked what the hardest thing she experienced following the tragedy. Ladies' Code' Sojung answered, "When we started working again after the accident, the emptiness on stage was too apparent. I often think if it was alright for us to smile on stage. We performed on stage to give our fans and viewers happiness. But, we felt like we don't deserve to smile."

Sojung then admitted that up to this day, she is still undergoing psychotherapy and taking medications, which started after Ladies' Code had a tragic accident.

Ladies' Code is originally a five-member group under Polaris Entertainment consisting of Ashley, Sojung, Zuny, EunB, and RiSe. The band made its debut in March 2013 with the mini-album "Code#01." The day after their debut, the album's title song "Bad Girl" entered several real-time music charts including Soribada, Bugs, Mnet, and Daum.

In September 2014, the girl group was involved in a serious car collision when they were on their way back to Seoul after participating in the filming of KBS's "Open Concert." The band's manager, Mr. Park, was the one who was driving the van over the speed limit, thus causing the vehicle to lose control and crash on a wall. The accident then took the lives of EunB and RiSe.

The group's last release featuring all five members is the single "Kiss Kiss" that was launched in August 2014. At present, Ladies' Code is on indefinite hiatus, with the three remaining members promoting as solo artists. Sojung, Ashley, and Zuny had just departed with Polaris Entertainment last Feb. 17 of this year. Their last release is their fourth album titled "Code#03 Set Me Free," which is their first album after six years since "Code#02 Pretty Pretty."
