ARMYs are not happy with MAMA.
On Sunday, Dec. 6, Mnet held their annual Mnet Asian Music Awards. This year is their 22nd ceremony in the show's history. During the ceremony, BTS made history for bagging eight awards - meaning they had won every category they were nominated for. While ARMYs are amazingly proud of BTS for sweeping all the Daesangs, they are unhappy about one thing.
For the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards, a new segment was created called the "2020 Visionaries". To commemorate the Visionaries of this year, Mnet showed photos of the groups and individuals who were given the total. Notable winners include BLACKPINK, Bong Joon Ho, Yoo Jae Suk, Rain, and, of course, BTS.
While people congratulated BTS for being included in the list, they quickly noticed that the group photo only had six members - RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The Mnet Asian Music Awards forgot to include BTS's oldest member, Jin.
Many people had found it odd that the Mnet Asian Music Awards could edit Jin out of the photo. During the awards ceremony, a large-sized photo congratulating BTS as one of the 2020 Visionaries was seen, and all seven-members were seen in the photo. It is pointed out that the photo used on the screen is the same group photo they used to congratulate BTS.
This is not the first time the Mnet Asian Music Awards has left out Jin. Back in 2019, Jin was the only member without a close-up shot during the VCR for their performance. When Big Hit Entertainment released the "Memories of 2019" DVD, ARMYs discovered that Jin had actually filmed his solo scene for the VCR, yet his footage was excluded from the final cut.
After noticing that Jin was cut from the group photo, ARMYs started trending "BTS IS 7" on Twitter to remind Mnet and the Mnet Asian Music Awards that BTS has seven members. As this is not the first time Mnet has neglected BTS and Jin, they are demanding an apology from the media company for making the same mistake again. The phrase is also being used to remember Suga, who could not attend the Mnet Asian Music Awards due to surgery for his shoulder.
As of press time, Mnet has not released a statement concerning the situation.
During the Mnet Asian Music Awards, BTS snagged eight awards: Artist of the Year, Song of the Year ("Dynamite)", Album of the Year ("Map of the Soul: 7") Worldwide Icon of the Year, Best Male Group, Best Dance Performance - Male Group ("Dynamite"), Best Music Video ("Dynamite"), and Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10.
This is the second year in a row that BTS has swept all four Daesangs. They also won an award in each category they were nominated for, making them the first group to do so.
BTS also performed during the award ceremony. The group performed their hit songs "ON", "Dynamite", and "Life Goes On". The group performed with the stage theme "On & On".
Congratulations, BTS!
