BTS Named ‘Band of the Year’ by Music Outlet ‘Consequence of Sound’

The world-renowned K-pop group, BTS, has been named "Band of the Year" by the leading U.S. music outlet "Consequence of Sound". Keep on reading to learn more.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, Consequence of Sound announced who they selected as "Band of the Year" on their official website. Every year, the outlet selected and announces its top artists, bands, and celebrities of the year, applauding artists who have drawn attention for their music and stars who have made an impact in the news, films, and television this year.

BTS was selected for their music's sincerity and for the members' perseverance, dedication, and drive to produce better music and to be good role models to their ARMYs.

Consequence of Sound also mentioned the numerous accomplishments BTS has achieved this year. To start, BTS became the first K-pop act to have a song hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100; their all-English single "Dynamite" become the first song by a South Korean act to top the charts and is also the group's first number-one hit on the Billboard charts. It is noted that "Dynamite" was released to spread joy and hope during this difficult time.

A few weeks later, BTS hit number one with a predominantly-Korean lyric song, "Life Goes On."

BTS is also the first-ever Korean musical act to be nominated for Grammy, having been nominated for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" earlier this month. This is a huge win for BTS, who has often spoken about wanting to be nominated for a Grammy in the past.

BTS had a short interview with Consequence of Sound, where they thanks the ARMY for their constant support. The group also thanks to everyone who has sat down, listened and enjoyed their music this past 2020. RM said,

"It is an honor to be recognized alongside all these amazing artists. We would like to thank all our ARMYs, our fans, and everyone who has listened and enjoyed listening to our music in the past year."

During the interview, Consequence of Sound mentions that BTS has never been limited by genre. They were asked if this reflects the diverse tastes and styles of each individual BTS member, or if it was caused by a desire to try new things. V revealed that in their latest album, "Be", the boys simply decided to say what they wanted to say. Jin continues and says that their album reflects each of the member's preferences in music J-Hope then explains that BTS works organically with no specific genre in mind.

BTS was also asked about how they feel whenever they receive such a positive reaction from fans whenever they release a new project. J-Hope replies that it motivates him to dive deeper into his research and to work harder in his pursuit of better music. "Having people who listen to your music, that is a joyful feeling," he adds.

2020 has been a rough year for many, but BTS proved that nothing can get in their way. The group recently bagged eight MAMA awards, making it the second year in the row for them to sweep all the Daesangs.

Congratulations, BTS!
