GFRIEND was recently invited for a "Mini Masterclass" with GRAMMY Museum in which the group talked about a variety of topics - becoming the first K-Pop girl group to get such interview.
"Mini Masterclass" is a video series that includes a 10-minute interview with various artists and music industry professionals from all different genres. The talk covers a range of topics including musical process and inspiration, as well as tips for young musicians, and more. Moreover, "Mini Masterclass" is divided into two parts, which are uploaded within the same week.
On Dec. 15, "GRAMMY Museum" released the video of GFRIEND's "Mini Masterclass" through its official YouTube channel. Aside from becoming the first K-Pop girl group to be invited for an interview, GFRIEND is the second Korean act, following Big Hit's world-renowned boy band BTS.
The interview was conducted by Mark Conklin, a director of Artist Relations & Programming at the GRAMMY Museum Experience Prudential Center. GFRIEND talked about an array of topics, including the qualities needed to succeed, their recent musical inspiration, and advice for young musicians.
The first question was, "What does it take to be successful? What are the skills, qualities, and traits that someone needs to be successful?" GFRIEND's Sowon answered that she still has a long way to go, but she believes that having the proper skill sets is the most important. "It's crucial to get out of your comfort zone and to be someone who improves and moves forward," she stated.
Umji added that it's essential to have one distinct color since there are lots of talented people who can sing and dance. She also noted that having basic skill sets is very important, but it's more vital to have a trademark and unique traits.
The following question was, "What do you love best about? And what is the thing about this that you love the most?" GFRIEND's Yerin responded that for her, being able to showcase various concepts for the group's fans is something that she loves the most. As for Eunha, the best part is having five more members in the group who are like family to her. "They give me strength!" she remarked.
Mark Conklin then asked the "pro-tip" the sextet can give about their craft or profession that students can learn from them. GFRIEND's Yuju said that one should not be overly proud of something done well or should not be discouraged for a mistake made. "Think through and analyze your shortcomings, but also be aware of your strengths," she advised. SinB added that confidence stems from loving oneself, so young musicians should love themselves a lot. Sowon then said that it is crucial to take good care of oneself.
GFRIEND, a six-member girl group under Source Music, released its third studio album "回:Walpurgis Night" last November 9. The album contains eleven tracks including the lead single "Mago," which is described as a disco track about being responsible for your own life.
