After GOT7 Jinyoung and Yugyeom are reportedly discussing to sign with other agencies, the public attention is focused if the group will re-sign with JYP Entertainment, or lead to disbandment.
In particular, it is long known in the public that the exclusive contract of GOT7 with JYPE will expire on its 7th anniversary. Some members are recently rumored to transfer to other agencies, drawing attention to whether the team will continue.
Following Jinyoung, Yugyeom was earlier rumored to sign with another agency, as their contracts are nearing expiration.
Will GOT7 Disband This 2021?
Ahead of the seventh anniversary of their debut, GOT7 which is a seven-member boy group consisting of JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom, is indeed loved domestically and locally by K-pop fans.
However, idol groups generally sign a seven-year exclusive contract only after debut, the longest period specified in the standard exclusive contract introduced by the Fair Trade Commission in 2009. Because of the large number of members, it isn't easy to gather their thoughts and directions together after the end of the contract, so they often disband. That's why K-pop groups who will be having their seventh debut anniversary are also gaining attention if they will overcome the "Seven Year curse."
In recent years, even teams that made their debut around the same time have not overcome the "Seven Year Curse." In 2016 and 2017, prominent groups at that time such as SISTAR, Rainbow, and 4Minute were disbanded and has signed to different agencies, while some members of B1A4, Infinite, and Block B also said goodbye to the team.
However, idol groups have become more and more popular, and there have been cases where they have to protect them in various ways. One case is that the member does not leave the team even if they leave their agency, such as Ok Taecyeon, a member of 2PM, who announced that he signed with his new agency 51K but will continue his 2PM activities under the management of JYPE.
In response to the rumors, JYP Entertainment said, "We are still discussing re-signing in various ways and will let you know when we finalize our position."
In May 2019, GOT7 leader JB also said in an interview that, "The opinions of seven people are always the same. We will continue with the seven of us." Thus, attention is focusing on whether the current GOT7 members will protect the team with the same mind as they did at the time and continue their activities as a full group.
GOT7 Yugyeom and Jinyoung Reportedly Considering to Sign with Other Agencies
On Jan. 6, a media outlet reported that Yugyeom was moving to AOMG. Yugyeom is in charge of dance and rap in GOT7, so it is cautiously observed that he may want to move to the nation's top hip-hop label AOMG and become a full-fledged hip-hop artist.
Prior to Yugyeom, Jinyoung, on Dec. 23 last year, was also rumored to focus on his acting career and sign with BH Entertainment, an agency with star-studded actors such as Lee Byung Hun and Han Jimin.
JYP Entertainment released an official statement that they are doing their ways to re-sign all the members, along with the consideration of the possibility that GOT7 can remain as a whole team despite members' agencies are different already.
