Fans of K-pop girl group SECRET NUMBER now have their very own name!
Last October 2020, Vine Entertainment launched a fan club naming project for their new female act called SECRET NUMBER. Then, on Jan. 8, the official fandom name of the rookie group has been revealed. Through their social media accounts, the record label and the band shared what the fans will be called.
On that day, SECRET NUMBER uploaded a group photo on Instagram showing the members holding a white sheet with the word "LOCKEY" printed on it. Following this, their management company took to Twitter to share the meaning of the fandom name. Vine Entertainment initially stated, "LOCK + KEY: Fans are a key to Secret Number. 'LOCKEY' is pronounced as 'lucky,' which means lucky. Also, therefore, 'LOCKEY' means fans are lucky people who already have Secret Number."
An hour later, the agency deleted the original tweet about the fandom name, and posted a new one, citing some changes in the meaning and pronunciation of the term. They noted that the exact meaning of LOCKEY is the fans are the KEYs that opened the locked appeal of SECRET NUMBER. The record label added that the word is pronounced as "LOCKKEY."
But then, they updated the post and said that the pronunciation of the official fandom name will be "ROCKY." Additionally, based on Vine Entertainment's post "LOCKEY" was actually made by the fans.
One of the SECRET NUMBER members also commented on the official fandom name. In particular, Denise Kim said, "A code can easily be changed, but you can only open a LOCK with a KEY. Secret Number's world can only be opened by our fans as the key, which is why it's a precious name."
SECRET NUMBER is one of the new K-pop girl groups who made their debut in 2020, alongside SM Entertainment's Aespa, High Up Entertainment's STAYC, and more. Vine Entertainment teased the debut of the band starting from Dec. 17, 2019, when the company dropped the profile image of Lea. It was followed by the profile photos of Dita, Jinny, Denise, and Soodam.
The rookie group was supposed to debut on March 12, 2020. However, it was postponed due to the COVID-19. Its name, SECRET NUMBER, was then unveiled on April 29. On May 19, the new girl group officially debuted with the release of their single album titled "Who Dis?" featuring a title track of the same name. The music video for "Who Dis?" was also dropped the same day, and as of Jan. 9, the MV has 33 million views, nearing 34 million.
Just five months after their debut, SECRET NUMBER made their first comeback on Nov. 4. The female act released its second single album titled "Got That Boom" with its title track of the same name. The song is said to mix different genres including EDM house and hip hop, producing an addictive dance-pop track. SECRET NUMBER's Jinny is credited for writing the lyrics of "Got That Boom."
