Kim Sang Kyo, who is known as the "Burning Sun" scandal's whistleblower, insists Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon is a witness and aware of the illegal happenings in the Burning Sun nightclub.
Following Kim Sang Kyo's allegations, the female artist and her management agency, SM Entertainment addressed the matter. SM Entertainment released an official statement in which they opposed the accusations made by Kim, by saying, "Hyoyeon has nothing to do with the case." The company then pointed out that the idol was only invited to perform as a DJ on that day.

Meanwhile, Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon shared what she only did and saw on the day Kim Sang Kyo was assaulted. She said that she saw men and women drooling in the club as they attempted to seduce each other. However, she didn't see a drooling actress. Hyoyeon also stated that she only greeted many people, drank with her friends and staff, and went home after eating pork belly.
But despite the statements issued by SM Entertainment and Hyoyeon denying the accusations, the "Burning Sun" informant sat down for an interview with Garo Sero Institute on YouTube to talk about his claims. He insisted that the Girls' Generation member must have witnessed everything -- from the actress who was high on drugs to Seungri's friend beating him.
Kim Sang Kyo said, "I'm sure Hyoyeon just went there to DJ and left, but she must have seen everything that happened behind her." He went on to mention former BIGBANG member Seungri by sharing, "Since she's also friends with Seungri, she must know about the relationship between the female actresses who did drugs."

On Jan. 13, Kim Sang Kyo took to his Instagram to make a post regarding the "Burning Sun" scandal in which he mentioned Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon. He claimed that the female idol was the DJ on the day he was assaulted at the nightclub by Seungri's friend who was high on drugs at that time (Nov. 24, 2018). And instead of receiving help from other people, he got arrested and was harassed by the police.
The whistleblower accused Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon of knowing about the drugs and assault inside the establishment, yet ignoring it as if she saw nothing. Kim also stated that she is a VVIP member, which means she could probably be aware of all the illegal doings in the nightclub.
In 2018, Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon made her debut as DJ under SM Entertainment's subsidiary agency Scream Records. She went with the stage name "DJ Hyo" and started performing at EDM festivals and local club tours. In the same year, the female idol was invited to perform as a DJ at the Burning Sun nightclub, which was owned by former BIGBANG member Seungri. Hyoyeon's attendance at that time was proven by a photo (now deleted) that was uploaded to her SNS account.
Sadly, the unfortunate incident of Kim Sang Kyo getting assaulted at the nightclub took place the same night DJ Hyo performed. Hence, Kim considers the female star as a witness who is staying quiet about what she knows.
