aespa to Release New Song 'Forever' This February

Rejoice, MYs! SM Entertainment's new girl group, aespa, will be releasing a new song after almost three months!

On Jan. 21, aespa's upcoming track was accidentally teased by Cheon-hoon, the chief engineer of Sonic Korea Mastering Studio via his Instagram account. While the image he posted doesn't reveal much, the caption spilled everything. The chief engineer wrote, "aespa new single 'forever'" along with multiple hashtags including "#aespa," "#forever," "#mastering," and "#vinylmastering."

His post's caption implies that aespa's new song, "Forever" is already in the final stages of production, so meaning it could be launched any time soon. And now, the new girl group is confirmed to be returning with the said single.

aespa is Set to Release a New Track

On Friday, Jan. 29, aespa surprisingly dropped an aesthetic photo that shows a snow globe with various symbols in it and the word "aespa" on the base of the object. Surrounding the snow globe are plants and flowers that resemble the ones from the rookie group's teaser images, even the colors in the image. Together with the picture is the announcement that the new girl group will be releasing a new song titled "Forever" on Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. KST. The single is said to be a remake version of the original track sang by hitmaker Yoo Young-jin.

Aespa's new song is described as a medium-tempo ballad that features warm acoustic guitar sounds and string instrumentals. It also includes the members' fresh and bright vocal colors. In addition, songwriter Yoo Young-jin himself was behind the arrangement of the single, which consists of lyrics that convey a promise of eternity to loved ones and have a cozy winter mood.

Furthermore, it is said that the members of the rookie group will show a different charm through this song that is completely different from their debut track, "Black Mamba."

aespa's Debut in the K-Pop Scene

Aespa, which is made up of four members: Karina, Ningning, Winter, and Giselle, is a new girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2020. The quartet is the agency's first all-female band since Red Velvet in 2014 and the first overall idol group since NCT in 2016. Considering that SME is one of the "Big 3" companies in South Korea that has produced many successful acts, many anticipated aespa's debut.

On Nov. 17, the new girl group entered the K-pop scene with the release of a digital song titled "Black Mamba." What made their debut more interesting is that aespa has a concept that involves virtual characters that represent all members of the band.

Despite the plagiarism controversies that surrounded aespa and SM Entertainment, their debut was still a success. "Black Mamba" immediately made its way to several charts, both domestic and international. The song landed simultaneously on Gaon's digital, download, and streaming charts. It also entered Billboard's World Digital Song Sales and Global 200 charts, at No. 5 and No. 183, respectively.

In New Zealand's RMNZ Hot Singles chart, aespa's first song was at No. 37. On top of that, the music video for "Black Mamba" has become the fastest K-pop group debut MV to reach 100 million views.
