Global K-pop superstar CL joins the most powerful women in history today - Cardi B, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and more - in the latest Google ad, "First of Many."
As the month of March coincides with the celebration of Women's History Month, the Google campaign aims to recognize notable "firsts" achieved by women in various fields across history. These female pioneers are then combined with the modern generation of women leaders they have inspired.
In the one and a half minute video posted on its official YouTube channel, Google shows its iconic search bar with various queries starting with the phrase "first woman to..." and features historic women who have paved the way from breaking the sound barrier to winning the Nobel prize.
Google additionally explains that the search query "the first woman" has seen a notable increase from the previous year. "In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we're celebrating some of the most notable firsts by women and the many they inspire, from the first woman to break the sound barrier to all of those continuing to break the glass ceiling," its caption read.
The video now has more than 4.7 million views on YouTube, garnering 52K likes as of this writing.
As for the rap industry, Google traces back the glorious lineage of female rappers back Sharon Green, better known as Sha-Rock. Widely known as the first female rapper, she made her name during the early years of hip-hop culture, earning the moniker "Mother of the Mic."
Today, female rappers dominating the industry ranges from Megan Thee Stallion, to Cardi B, to Lee Chae Rin - better known as CL.
In a montage of female icons in various fields - from athletics, medicine, technology, to environmental conservation - the Google ad toasts in celebration, "Here's to the firsts."
In response, CL shared the Google ad on her official Instagram account. "Honored to be a part of this! Thank you @Google Here's to the Firsts! #FirstofMany #WomensHistoryMonth," she wrote on the caption.
CL's inclusion in the Google "First of Many" advertisement comes shortly after she released her latest track, "Wish You Were Here," which arrived on streaming platforms in time for her 30th birthday last February 26. The sincere and intimate track was a tribute to her mother, Hong Yoo Ra, who passed away due to a heart attack last January 23. In the accompanying music video for the track, CL shares a series of video clips of her and her younger sister, Lee Harin, growing up.
