Chilean TV Show "Mi Barrio" Under Fire For Racist BTS Parody
On Sunday, Apr. 11, the Chilean comedy show "Mi Barrio" aired a performance of BTS, which included racist jokes and jokes that mocked the Korean language.
Upon the airing of the episode, numerous fans took to Twitter to express their outrage over the performance and the racist acts displayed on the program.

The host laughed, saying, "Didn't you just put a number with the North Korean dictator's name?"
When the men were asked to speak Korean, a language that everyone wants to learn, one man started speaking Chinese instead. When asked what it meant, he replied, "I got the vaccine."

BTS Speaks Out Against Asian Hate in the United States
Back on Mar. 30, BTS shared a statement to their official Twitter regarding the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes in the United States. In their statement, BTS sent their condolences to those who have lost their loved ones due to the anti-Asian violence in the country.
They then confessed that they, too, were discriminated against due to their Asian heritage. The group recalled being mocked for the way they looked and were asked why they spoke English despite being Asian.
These experiences became a source of pain for the group. They then acknowledge that their experiences may not be as drastic as the hate crimes Asian-Americans are experiences now, but that the discrimination they received still made them feel powerless and hurt their self-esteem.
BTS states that they thought long and hard on how they should voice their message. They then firmly state that they are against racial discrimination and condemn violence. The boy group then states that everyone has the right to be respected.
"We will stand together," they state.
