Prosecution Demand 4-Year Prison Sentence for Ex-BTOB Member Ilhoon

On May 20 at 2 pm KST, the Seoul Central District Court held the second trial for former BTOB member Jung Ilhoon and seven others on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, to which the former has admitted to and expressed that he is reflecting on his actions.

The second trial was presided over by Judge Yang Cheol-han, where the prosecution had demanded that Jung Ilhoon serve four years in prison and pay a fine of 133 million won (approximately $118,000).

Jung Ilhoon's lawyer stated that the rapper is reflecting hard on his mistakes and that he had suffered a great deal of stress while working and promoting in the entertainment industry as a trainee and songwriter from just a young age. "Jung Ilhoon pledges to find a sound way of relieving stress without relying on drugs such as marijuana," his lawyer said.

Jung Ilhoon also gave his words, "I am ashamed to be in this position even though I have a status that should have served as an example for others. I apologize for disappointing those who believed in me. I was able to reflect on my actions, and realized how foolish I was." He adds that he will live without shame in the future through the learnings that he had gained from this incident.

The prosecution also demanded a prison sentence of three years, two years, and one year for the other seven acquaintances accused.

The sentence hearing is scheduled to take place on June 10 at 2 pm KST to announce Jung Ilhoon's charges.

Jung Ilhoon Admits to Smoking Marijuana at First Hearing

On April 22, the first trial hearing for Jung Ilhoon and his violation of the Narcotics Control Act took place. During the hearing, the prosecution states that the former BTOB member, along with the seven other defendants, had purchased over 130 million won (approximately $116,400 USD) worth of marijuana and consumed a total of 826g in 161 instances from July 6, 2016, to January 9, 2019.

The hearing came after the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency had forwarded Jung Ilhoon to prosecution back in July 2020 with the recommendation that he be charged with his accomplices.

Jung Ilhoon is currently serving his mandatory military service as a public service worker since May 28, 2020. He left BTOB on December 31 after Cube Entertainment was made aware of his charges.
