In September 2019, Hong Ki became the first member of F.T. Island to enlist in the military. When asked if who did he miss the most while in the army, Hong Ki answered, "I just wanted to go out rather than miss someone. I just wanted to go out because I like anyone."
Just then, a listener mentioned, "You said Do Kyungsoo (EXO D.O.) is your girlfriend." In particular, D.O., who also enlisted the same year with Hong Ki, created a close senior-junior relationship while in the military.
In response, the senior singer said, "So far, we are in a great relationship even to date. I always hugged him, so we said we are each other's girlfriend as a joke, but Kyungsoo fans ask me a lot about it."
What is making their relationship special is that F.T. Island debuted in 2007, while EXO in 2012. Basically, Hong Ki is D.O.'s senior as a singer. However, since the EXO member joined the military earlier than him, Hong Ki met D.O. as his military senior.
Their "bromance" was also evident when Hong Ki guested on Radio Star, he explained that musical brought their closeness to each other. The cute rumor circulated then when they were both captured in a photo. While D.O. was putting the Korean flag pin on his military uniform, Hong Ki was seen smiling affectionately.
On May 29, Hong Ki also teased his friendship not only with D.O. but Xiumin as well, saying, "I met Kyungsoo and Umin (Xiumin). We hugged each other."

It feels like I'm hosting a radio show after a long time... It hasn't been long since I was discharged from the military, but I've adjusted a lot recently by broadcasting a lot."
When Tae Gyun later appeared, they continue to talk about the military. When asked if which girl group is popular in the army, the band vocalist said that rappers were the most popular. "I usually follow Sergeant, but my young friends like rappers."
Furthermore, one listener is curious if he usually sings in front of other soldiers, given his stunning vocals.
Lee Hong Ki undoubtedly responded that he did. The singer shared," There was a coin karaoke room right in front of the dormitory." He added that he also sings his debut song, "Love Sick" as the No.1 song for his military colleagues.
