Health Authorities Release Statement on INFINITE's Sunggyu Testing Positive After Vaccination

Following the news of the "The Chaser" singer testing positive for COVID-19 after getting vaccinated, the health authorities released a statement where they explained that a "breakthrough infection" is estimated for Sunggyu, making him the first known Janssen breakthrough case in South Korea.

A "breakthrough infection" or case is when a person becomes diagnosed with positive test results for COVID-19 after two weeks of getting vaccinated.

On June 28, KST, a briefing was held to discuss the Janssen breakthrough infection. Park Young Joon, the head of the epidemiological investigation team at the Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters located in Bangdaebon, said, "If a case is confirmed positive after 17 days of taking the Janssen vaccination, it is a case that meets the criteria for a breakthrough infection. It can be viewed as an estimated breakthrough infection case."

Park Young Joon added that the health authorities check for breakthrough infections once a week, but as of June 24, there were no cases of Janssen breakthrough infection. Sunggyu - who tested positive on June 25 - will be included in the next analysis, according to Park Young Joon.

As of June 24, a total of 44 people were confirmed to have a breakthrough infection in South Korea. According to health authorities, 26 people tested positive for COVID-19 after getting vaccinated with Pfizer, while 18 tested positive after taking AstraZeneca.

Sunggyu's musical, "Gwanghwamun Love Song," stated that it is likely that the press conference for the musical scheduled on July 5 will be postponed and that details are currently being discussed and will be announced soon.

We wish Sunggyu a fast recovery!
