Brown Eyed Girls Gain Caught Illegally Using Propofol
On Wednesday, June 30, reports came out that a former girl group member was caught taking propofol, a powerful drug that cannot be used without a proper prescription.
After receiving a tip-off, police fined the idol KRW 1,000,000 ($884 USD) for illegal drug usage. The case was charged in early 2021.
During the investigation, the former idol received the drugs from a plastic surgeon in their 70s and was using propofol for their treatment. However, the celebrity claimed it was for insomnia and depression and that she had used propofol between July and August 2019.

Soon, it was revealed that the former idol who was charged for illegally using propofol was Brown Eyed Girls member Gain. Her plastic surgeon was indicted for violating the Narcotic Management Act. They were charged with 18 months in prison for selling the painkiller Etomidate to various patients and selling three propofol boxes to Gain ₩1.5 million KRW (about $1,330 USD).
Brown Eyed Girls Gain's Agency Releases Statement and Apology for Idol's Illegal Propofol Usage
APOP by Mystic Story, the company that houses Brown Eyed Girls' Gain, released an apology on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
In their statement, they acknowledged that their artist was fined ₩1,000,000 KRW for illegal propofol usage. The company and Gain apologize for causing concern to the fans with the sudden news. They claimed that it pained their hearts to greet fans, who have been watching over Gain with affection, with such news.
The company explained that during her activities, Gain had garnered both small and large wounds and injuries. In addition, she was struggling with severe pains and was suffering from depression and sleep disorders. These led to Gain's decisions to illegally administer propofol, which the company claimed was a "reckless decision."

Mystic Story said that despite the increased pain their artist was feeling due to personal circumstances that built up through the years, neither the artists nor the agency - who should be working together and share the same fate - found a good way to overcome this.
As an agency, Mystic Story says they feel a deep sense of responsibility for the situation.
Mystic Story states that they will ensure that Gain and the company will do their best to stand in front of fans and the public with a mature image. The two parties will be more careful in the future, apologizing once more for causing concern.
