Former BESTie Member Uji Reveals She Didn't Earn Even 10 Won While Promoting for 6 Years

On July 12, a Youtube channel called "Recent Olympics" shared a video that features former BESTie member and K-Pop idol Uji, who now promotes by the name of Jung Yuji.

In the video, the Youtube channel interviews Uji, who opened up about her life when she was a member of BESTie and her current life situation.

Recalling her time as a member of BESTie, she thought she was given a lot of opportunities. However, she felt like she couldn't always do it, so she felt sorry for her fellow BESTie members, her label YNB Entertainment's president, and the people who work with them at the label.

Although there may be missed opportunities, Uji adds that she did her best at what she was given and that she had no regrets about thinking, "I will work harder."

She also hinted at her retirement as an idol back in 2018, saying, "I can't tell you everything about my retirement [as an idol]. There were also internal circumstances within the company."

She shares that she had expressed doubt in herself. During her time as an idol, she wondered if she is a person who can be loved by fans, as she didn't like herself at the time. "I thought that singing was the only thing that could get me recognized, so I stayed in the practice room and sang," said Uji.

Following BESTie's disbandment back in 2018 after Uji left YNB Entertainment in September 2017, she contemplated a lot about her future. She began participating in musicals after joining musical actor Min Woo Hyuk's company.

She also revealed that after debuting as a member of BESTie in July 2013 and promoting as a girl group member for six years, they had never once earned at least 10 won (less than one cent in USD) for themselves.

"It is hard to earn money if things don't work out really well in the case of girl groups. Now I can earn money doing what I love," said Uji, as she now works as a musical actress.

Meanwhile, Uji will be performing as Margrid Arnaud in the musical "Marie Antoinette," which opens at Charlotte Theater in South Korea starting July 13.

Who is Uji?

Formerly a trainee under JYP Entertainment, Uji eventually made her debut as a member of EXID back in February 2012. However, Uji departed from the group in April to focus on her studies.

The following year in July 2013, Uji made her debut again as a member of BESTie, with their single "Pitapat." The group went on to release two extended plays and several songs, such as albums "Hot Baby" and "Love Emotion," both of which peaked within the top 10 on Gaon charts.

In September 2017, Uji and fellow BESTie member Dahye departed from the group. And since then, Uji has worked as a musical actress, appearing in musicals such as "Anna Karenina," "Notre Dame de Paris," and "City of Light."
