'BLACKPINK The Movie' Becomes the Highest Grossing Cinema Release of 2021

BLACKPINK's special movie, "BLACKPINK The Movie," is a box office hit!

On August 17 local time, Trafalgar Releasing and CJ 4DPLEX revealed that "BLACKPINK The Movie" became the highest grossing event cinema release so far in 2021. According to a report by media outlet, Music Week, "BLACKPINK The Movie," which was released back on August 4 and originally with limited engagement, has grossed $4.8 million USD from across almost a hundred territories and in over 3,400 cinemas around the world.

"BLACKPINK The Movie" is part of BLACKPINK's fifth anniversary celebration "4+1 PROJECT" since their debut back in 2016, and showcases the four BLACKPINK members in behind-the-scene cuts, unreleased interviews and footage, and concert performances, and was released in special formats such as ScreenX, 4DX and 4DX Screen.

Besides raking in $4.8 million USD and becoming the highest grossing event cinema of the year, "BLACKPINK The Movie" also has the highest number of admissions for any event cinema released so far this year, with the movie surpassing 500,000 moviegoers around the world.

In addition, "BLACKPINK The Movie" is set to be released in additional countries sometime at the end of August, following local COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in countries from Southeast Asia. As of this moment, the movie is only being screened at 3,400 cinemas, but is expected to go up to 4,200 cinemas that will premiere "BLACKPINK The Movie."

Back in the movie's opening night on August 4, "BLACKPINK The Movie" took the No.6 spot at the box office in the United States, delivering the second highest per-screen average for a release in over a hundred screens, and following behind Disney's "Jungle Cruise."

"BLACKPINK The Movie" also topped the box office in Mexico at No.1 on August 4, drawing more than 120,000 moviegoers since its release. Besides that, the movie also peaked at No.3 in Turkey's box office, following behind "Suicide Squad" and "Fast & Furious 9." In Saudi Arabia, "BLACKPINK The Movie" took in over 15,000 admissions, accumulating a total gross of $250,000 USD.

BLACKPINK to Perform on Japan's 'Music Station'

BLACKPINK will be making an appearance on the popular Japanese music program, "Music Station."

According to the group's label, YG Entertainment, the four-member group will be performing the Japanese version of "Lovesick Girls" on "Music Station" this coming August 20. In addition to performing, BLACKPINK will also be talking about their Japanese album "THE ALBUM."

Meanwhile, "Music Station" is one of the major music programs in Japan, and is recognized as an essential program by K-Pop idols. This will also mark the second time BLACKPINK is appearing on the program, with their last appearance being back in October 2019.
