BTS Ranks No.1 on Billboard Artist 100 Chart for 20th Week

BTS returns to the top spot on the Billboard Artist 100 chart for a breakthrough 20th week on top. They became the first group to achieve the mark since the list was launched in 2014.

BTS is still number one in the Billboard Artist 100 for 20 weeks

The South Korean male group returns to No.1 spot thanks to the continuous success of their song "Butter" and "Permission to Dance." "Butter" spent nine weeks at No.1 on the Billboard 100 starting in June, while "Permission to Dance" spent a week at the peak in July.

The Billboard Artist 100 chart measures the artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, track sales and blending albums, radio airplay, streaming, and social media fan interaction to give a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

BTS' Popularity Increases

Meanwhile, in the Digital Song Sales Category, "Butter" led for a 12th week, achieving 55,000 downloads.

"Butter" had stayed on top of the main singles chart for nine nonconsecutive weeks. It became the longest-running No.1 song of 2021.

Since its release last May, "Butter" has successfully swept online music charts and streaming platforms all over the world, this includes iTunes and Spotify.

The song triumphantly set a record for the longest No.1 streak achieved by a group since 1995. It was when "One Sweet Day" by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey together with R&B group Boyz II Men spent almost 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

"Permission to Dance," which was released last July 9, is the group's second collaboration with British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.

At the same time, BTS' label Big Hit Music stated that "Butter" and the male group's other hit "Dynamite" recently earned platinum in Britain and Japan, respectively.

"Butter" acquired a total of over 100 million plays to receive platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan in July.

The song has set a record for the Japanese association in the shortest period to reach platinum, at only 72 days.

"Dynamite," BTS's first full English song, also achieved platinum from the British Phonographic Industry last week, based on the total number of downloads, streams, and album sales.

More to come for the ARMYs

Concurrently, BTS is planning to release a remix version of "Butter" in collaboration with the next-generation American rapper Megan Thee Stallion at 1 PM (KST) on August 27. It has already raised a lot of expectations on whether it will create a new sensation of not.

Last August 25, the American rapper Megan Thee Stallion stated that she and BTS had prepared a collaboration for a "Butter" remix. However, her label was trying to stop its release. Since then, ARMYs have been very outspoken with their support and anticipating the collaboration, especially when it became a whole court case. Fortunately, the judge finally cleared it, and the anticipated collaboration will be happening.

When the court finally approved it, both BTS and Megan Thee Stallion released the new "Butter" mystery, officially announcing the upcoming remix to their millions of followers. The fandoms could not be even more excited.
