Police Arrest 'Garo Sero Institute' Hosts After Facing 10-Hour Long Standoff

On September 8 KST, media outlets reported that police have arrested the three hosts - Kim Yong Ho, Kim Se Ui, and Kang Yong Suk - of the infamous "Garo Sero Institute" for failing to follow their subpoenas.

According to reports, the three hosts were issued a subpoena for investigation by the police, however, they ignored this for a total of 10 times. Following their failure to cooperate with the subpoenas, the court issued a warrant for their arrest.

On September 7, around 20 police officers were dispatched to carry out the arrest of Kim Se Ui and Kang Yong Suk, who were reportedly locking themselves inside their respective homes.

SBS News reported that their arrest refusal had led to a standoff between the hosts and the police officers.

After 10 hours of confrontation and the hosts refusing to be arrested, the dispatched police officers from the Seoul Gangnam Police Station had forcefully broken down the door of their homes and finally arrested the two hosts.

In regards to the third host of "Garo Sero Institute," Kim Yong Ho was immediately arrested by the police in front of his home on the same day.

According to the police, the three hosts were arrested on more than 10 different complaints filed against them regarding cyber defamation and slander. It is said that among the complaints filed against them were cases involving the daughter of former Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs, Cho Kuk, and the son of Minister of Unification, Lee In Young.

In addition, it is said that the hosts were summoned numerous times by each of the victims, however, they had refused each summon. Due to the lack of cooperation, arrest warrants were issued and an investigation was launched.

The police have also stated that they will formally begin the investigation now that Kim Yong Ho, Kim Se Ui, and Kang Yong Suk have been arrested.

Why is 'Garo Sero Institute' Infamous?

"Garo Sero Institute" is a YouTube channel run by former reporters Kim Yong Ho and Kim Se Ui, and lawyer Kang Yong Suk. The channel became infamous for being the center of numerous controversies after reporting on several unverified accusations against celebrities.

More recently, their most notable accusation was against actresses, including Han Ye Seul, who the hosts accused her boyfriend of being a male escort in the past. They made further unproven accusations against the actress, such as her being a prostitute in the past.

Other actresses targeted recently by "Garo Sero Institute" are Choi Ji Woo and Jun Ji Hyun.

In addition, the hosts also made accusations against K-Pop idols, including Red Velvet's Irene and her alleged behavior issues, BLACKPINK's Jennie and past rumors of school violence, and more.
