Karl Lagerfeld Sends Adele Chanel Bags To Apologize For Calling her 'Roundish'

Karl Lagerfeld, head designer and creative director for the fashion house Chanel, isn't afraid to speak his mind. He has called British singer Adele "a little too fat" and "a little roundish." Though Lagerfeld says he doesn't regret his comments on the singer's weight, he reportedly sent Adele a selection of Chanel handbags to apologize for his scathing words.

Karl Lagerfeld is revising his comments, telling CNN, "I never said that she was fat, I said that she was a little roundish; a little roundish is not fat," Marie Claire reports.

He also is taking credit for Adele's weight loss. Lagerfeld believes his words motivated the singer to lose weight: "After that she lost eight kilo (17lbs), so I think the message was not that bad."

Last year was the first time the designer had something to say about Adele and her weight. "The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice," he said.

Though the 79-year-old designer said he didn't regret either of his statements, there are various rumors that he sent Adele multiple Chanel handbags after his remarks, Vogue reports. This information was neither confirmed nor denied by Lagerfeld.

Eventually, Lagerfeld clarified his comments, saying he was taken out of context, the Inquisitr reports. He expressed what can only be described as empathy in his response: "I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. Adele is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance."

The 25-year-old singer reacted to Lagerfeld with grace, saying she represents the "majority of women" and that she is "proud of that," the Christian Post reports.

"I never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines," she told People.

"I'd lose weight if I was an actress and had to play a role where you're supposed to be 40 pounds lighter, but weight has nothing to do with my career," added. "Even when I was signing [a contract], most of the industry knew if anyone ever dared say [lose weight] to me, they wouldn't be working with me," Adele said.
